"There comes a point when your effort in a pose exceeds your ability to move from a relaxed place. In that moment, you are no longer practicing yoga, just exercising."

Andrew Thorpe, PT, DPT, NCS, Hatha Yoga Teacher

What makes PhysioYoga different from other yoga?

A yoga posture is a dynamic exploration of the body where you begin to realize that there is no need to "work out" individual parts of the body. It is all connected. We just need to find alignment within each plane of motion, varying the postures. This takes practice and full attention to experience.

At PhysioYoga, we are rooted in the science of movement and personalized for lasting change. Our unique approach is designed to empower you to become an independent practitioner through an eight-week course that integrates the principles of neural plasticity and motor learning. Here’s what sets us apart:

  • Stability First

We prioritize proximal stability before encouraging distal mobility, helping you build a solid base for confident, efficient, and safe movement.

  • Balanced Movement

Our practice enhances balance and posture by guiding the body through fluid movement across all three planes—sagittal, frontal, and transverse.

  • Effort and Relaxation

We emphasize the harmony between mindful effort and ease, so each session leaves you grounded, energized, and aligned from the inside out.

Why Physio Yoga Exists

  • PhysioYoga is the culmination of 26 years of Andrew's life's work and passion. This practice integrates the principles of evidence-based movement science with the art and practice of yoga.
  • The possibilities of PhysioYoga are two-prong to practitioners. It can serve as an addition to a current practice, or stand-alone as its own practice, with room to build on.
  • His principal goal is to develop independent practitioners that create a foundation for you to practice, focusing on the process of yoga and not the poses.
